The Port of Southampton welcomed the biggest vessel to have ever docked in UK. The 20,170 TEU container ship “MOL Triumph” arrived at port in May 11th and will remain there until May 14th, before heading to Hamburg and its return journey to Asia, BBC reports.
The vessel is on its first trip to northern Europe, since entering service about a month ago. At 400 meters in length and 58.8 meters in width, the vessel is currently one of the world’s largest container ships. Built by Korean shipbuilder, Samsung Heavy Industries, she set off on her maiden voyage from Xingang, in April 2017. According to MOL, the ship is equipped with energy-saving technologies.
The authorities of Southampton port expressed their satisfaction for welcoming one of the world’s giant ships for first time in the Northern Europe.
Later within 2017, the even larger 20,568 TEU Munich Maersk is due to call at Southampton.
