French EDF Renewables and Enbridge conducted a ceremony highlighting the beginning of the construction on the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind project in France. The 480MW wind farm will be equipped with 80 GE Haliade 150-6MW turbines manufactured in France and is planned to begin operations in 2022.
Eolien Maritime France (EMF), a joint initiative between EDF Renouvelables and Enbridge, is constructing the Saint-Nazaire project approximately 12km off the coast of Loire-Atlantique.
Moreover, Atlantique Offshore Energy and its partners, GE Grid Solutions and Société de Dragage International (SDI), will be the ones to design, manufacture and install the electrical offshore substation of the project.

A consortium between DEME and Eiffage Métal is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of 80 monopile foundations.

A recent report by Wind Europe regarding the development of offshore wind in Europe revealed that the continent connected 409 new offshore wind turbines to the grid across 18 projects, in 2018. This brought 2,649 MW of net additional capacity, making Europe’s total offshore wind capacity 18,499 MW.
