Following the COVID-19 outbreak, the cruise cmpany Fred. Olsen Lines informed that its vessel “Braemar” won’t be allowed to entry at the Bahamas, as five people were tested positive to the disease.
In fact, on Wednesday 11 March, four crewmembers and one passenger were found to be infected by the coronavirus during docking in Willemstad, Curaçao.
According to the cruise company, Braemar was scheduled to end its “Western Caribbean & Central America” cruise trip on 12 March, but changed course following a cautious response from the local authorities.
We are currently working with the Bahamas, the UK government, UK Chamber of Shipping and Public Heath England to ensure that all guests can return home as soon as possible.
…the cruise company said in a statement.
As the Bahamian Ministry of Transport reported, the vessel’s crewmembers and passengers won’t be allowed disembark.
Moreover, Bahamas will closely monitor the situation and provide its humanitarian assistance to the cruise ship and other supplies they might need.
In order to avoid the spread of COVID-19, Fred Olsen Lines is following advice from Public Health England while there is currently no requirement for guests to stay in their cabins.
Although, the company has set safety measures in place such as operating open seating during mealtimes and keeping reasonable distance from each other.
We are keeping those on board regularly updated and are asking all guests and crew to return to their cabin and call the Medical Centre, if they begin to feel unwell.
…the company continued.
For the records, the next cruise “Islands of the Caribbean & the Azores” (M2006), has been cancelled and guests are being offered a full refund, including any additional expenses incurred.
