A private helicopter crashed in the East River, north of Roosevelt Island, US, on Sunday 10 March. The US Coast Guard responded to the incident, in which six people were involved. One was rescued, but five lost their lives.
Watchstanders at US Coast Guard Sector New York command center received the first notification on Sunday evening, regarding an incident with six people onboard. Two 45-foot Response Boat Medium boatcrews and one 29-foot Response Boat Small were then launched to assist.

The US Coast Guard partnered with the New York City Police Department and the New York City Fire Department, and manages to rescue one person with a tugboat.
Five people were then recovered by New York City Police Department and the New York City Fire Department divers. Two of them were dead at the scene and three died later at a hospital.
