On Aprill 25th, a fire destroyed a ship in Njarvk’s harbor, killing one man. Two injured parties were hospitalized, but attempts to save the third person at the scene were unsuccessful.
According to local news, seven men were on board as the fire broke out. Four people escaped the burning ship on their own. The captain of the ship, Sigvaldur Hólmgrímsson, confirmed that the deceased was a man in his fifties from Poland. The fate of the two hospitalized crew members remains to be see as their situation is critical.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and the police are to investigate what happened. As local news reported, the fishing trawler Grmsnes GK-555 had recently gained notoriety after one of its crew snuck a 15-year-old girl on board in the port of Vestmannaeyar. The man who was responsible for this was fired right away.
