An unexpected fire broke out onboard a Togo-flagged general cargo ship which was anchored off Elafonissos, Greece, as Hellenic Coast Guard noted.
According to local media sources, the fire started in the afternoon hours of 11 November, although its origin has not been determined yet.
In light of the situation, Hellenic Coast Guard immediately acted and sent two patrol boats to the scene.
In fact, one of the patrol boats successfully evacuated all the 14 crewmembers that were serving onboard.
At the time of the incident, the cargo vessel has just arrived from Libya and was heading to Turkey.
What is more, firefighting teams managed to extinguish the fire on the day after, on 12th November, while no oil spill has been detected so far.
Concluding, following the fire incident, an extensive invesitgation is expected.
