The ferry Maria Rosario partially sank on December 31, at the pier at Puerto La Cruz port, Venezuela, because of lack of maintenance. The ferry was at the pier since 2017.
According to local media, the ferry remains tied to the dock and is in the process of being sold in parts.
However, Alfredo Santamaría, the vice-president of the Bolimarítimos National Union, blamed the managing company for any environmental damage at the Bay of Pozuelos. He also called the Environmental Prosecutor and the Ministry of Ecosocialism to start an investigation into the incident.
In fact, this marks the third abandoned ferry in distress, in Puerto La Cruz.
Currently, port authorities demand from the owner to remove the wreck. However, this seems difficult at the time because of Venezuela’s political and economical turmoil.
