The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has reported an explosion at its production facility in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 40, at Gbetiokun Early Production facility.
According to NNPC, the explosion caused “significant damage” to the ship, and it is expected to affect production at the field’s early production facility by about 10,000 barrels per day.
Luckily, Kennie Obateru, NNPC’s general manager for public affairs, informed that there were no fatalities or injuries, as well as no significant pollution from the incident.
The Gbetiokun onshore field was developed when Eland Oil drilled the first development wells in 2018-19.
