The operators of the Ever Given ship are considering transferring the ship’s containers to other vessels as it remains stuck.
The Ever Given is still unable to leave the Suez Canal. as Egyptian authorities order it to pay $1 billion in damages.
However, according to Wall Streen Journal, Evergreen, is facing pressure to deliver its containers to its frustrated customers. Therefore, the prospect of moving the containers to other ships and delivering them to the clients in Europe is now on the table.
Nonetheless, efforts to remove the 18,000 container units could be a physical and logistical challenge, while it is possible for officials to move the vessel.
Such an effort could also lead to additional legal headaches, regarding claims and fees surrounding the vessel and its cargo customers. In fact, Wall Street Journal reports that Evergreen Marine is looking into the Egyptian court order “and studying the possibility of the vessel and the cargo on board being treated separately.”
What is more, Shoei Kisen Kaisha, the ship’s owner, filed a general-average claim this month against the vessel’s operators, calling companies with cargo on the vessel to share the risk and costs involved in the ship’s recovery.
