Abu Dhabi Ports, Fujairah Terminals, Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD) and network operator Etihad Rail signed an agreement to connect Khalifa Port with the UAE’s national railway network. The facility will ensure the safe navigation of vessels around ports in Abu Dhabi and will provide a variety of services for an efficient access and departure from territorial waters.
Specifically, the agreement was finalized after a visit by His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail, to Khalifa Port, where he was informed on work progress at the Khalifa Port Maritime Traffic Control Center.

Additionally, his Highness took part in a signing ceremony for the new agreement, that occurred on February 18.
Khalifa port’s rail terminal capacity is expected to be the largest of its kind within the UAE, handling an annual throughput of 2.4 million TEU, after the expansion.
The parties’ cooperation will provide customers, as shipping companies and logistics service providers with numerous advantages that will boost efficiency and reduce costs.
The agreement will also contribute to the second stage of Etihad Rail’s expansion project, as the company aspires to extend its network by 605 kilometres from Ghuweifa to Fujairah, passing through terminals at Khalifa Port, Jebel Ali and Khor Fakkan.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Ports, addressed that the Etihad Rail facility at Khalifa Port will enhance the efficiency of its infrastructure as well as the ability to increase its capacity in a more economical and reliable way.
