EMSA has launched a new dispersant stockpile associated with its Equipment Assistance Service (EAS) in the Adriatic Sea, Ravenna (Italy). The dispersant stockpile consists of 200 tonnes of Radiagreen OSD and 200 tonnes of Dasic Slickgone NS.
Mainly, the new dispersant stockpile is expected to serve the area of the Adriatic Sea. Yet, after request it can be transferred to any other part of Europe.
Moreover, in order to improve the new dispersant stock with a spraying capability for Vessels of Opportunity, EMSA also has a portable spraying system for the EAS arrangement in the first half of 2019.
For the time being EMSA preserves six operational dispersant stocks comprising a total of 1.400 tonnes, 4 associated with the vessel network and 2 with EAS arrangements.

Specifically, the Equipment Assistance Service (EAS) is embodied by stand-alone oil pollution response equipment stockpiles in selected areas around Europe.
This service complements the response capacity available through EMSA’s network of oil spill response vessels. The EAS equipment is on stand-by, ready to be mobilised around-the-clock anywhere in European waters and shared sea basins.
Moreover, after requesting assistance, the maximum mobilisation time that is needed is 12 hours, without the transmit time.
Also, except the equipment, the requesting party has the chance to hire technical support personnel to help.
EMSA currently maintains three EAS stockpiles:
- Aberdeen, UK (EAS North Sea).
- Gdansk, Poland (EAS Baltic Sea).
- Ravenna, Italy (EAS Adriatic Sea).
Concluding, each of these stockpiles has the following characteristics:
- Suitable indoor and outdoor storage capacity;
- Capability for quick mobilisation, with a maximum mobilisation time of 12 hours;
- Capability for transportation of the equipment;
- Technical support personnel qualified and trained in the maintenance and deployment of the oil pollution response equipment.
