Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC), North China-based shipyard, will construct the first LNG powered VLCC for Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation. The VLCC is amongst the four VLCCs Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation ordered earlier.
The vessel will be upgraded, running on LNG, and be equipped with dual fuel LNG propulsion system, which could reduce CO2 by 20% and sulphur emissions by 95%.
Moreover, the vessel is to be delivered at the end of 2021; The remaining three orders will be delivered prior to March 2021.
COSCO Shipping signed contracts for the construction of four 319,000 dwt VLCCs at DSIC In November 2017, to optimize its overall route arrangements and improve its operating efficiency and profitability.
Concluding, in April 2019, both parties signed an MoU for the development of the LNG dual fuel VLCC, to jointly promote the LNG as a major marine fuel on VLCC, aiming to achieving the goal of reducing shipping emissions.
