Panamanian authorities have seized a total of 208 packages containing drugs, hidden onboard a container ship’s ventilation system, while the vessel was in Colon, Panama, on 5 May.
The ship was reportedly identified as the Liberian-flagged ‘Celina Star’, which was transiting Panama Canal, while en route from Buenaventura Colombia to Algeciras Spain, when a police raid took place and the vessel was detained in Colon.
An official statement by Panama’s Public Prosecutor’s Office did not mention any crew involvement and the 2001-built boxship was left free to continue its journey to Spain, later the same day. It is expected to reach destination in 15 May, according to AIS data.
An investigation has been launched.
