DNV has acquired CyberOwl to bolster the cyber defenses of the shipping industry, forming one of the largest maritime cyber security specialists.
As explained by DNV, as the shipping sector faces growing cyber security regulations and rising incidents, the partnership addresses the critical need for better incident detection, response, and recovery. The collaboration comes in response to increasing cyber risks linked to the expanding use of digitally connected systems onboard vessels.
Together, DNV and CyberOwl will reduce cyber risks and strengthen compliance across the maritime supply chain with services that support all aspects of an organization’s cyber security needs and manage risk at every stage of a vessel’s lifecycle.
… said Remi Eriksen, Group President and CEO, DNV.
DNV and CyberOwl will offer services across the maritime supply chain, supporting regulatory compliance and managing cyber risks throughout a vessel’s lifecycle. The integration of CyberOwl’s Medulla platform, which provides advanced analytics to detect and manage cyber threats, will complement DNV’s 160 years of maritime expertise and growing cyber security portfolio.
DNV has 160 years of maritime heritage, strong engineering expertise and a growing portfolio of cyber security services. These, coupled with CyberOwl’s deep expertise in threat monitoring and incident management, provide a powerhouse for advancing cyber-physical safety, sustainability and resilience in the sector.
… commented Daniel Ng, CEO, CyberOwl.
The deal follows DNV’s broader cyber security growth strategy, which also includes its recent creation of DNV Cyber. Despite the acquisition, CyberOwl will operate independently from DNV’s ship classification services.
