The Port of Esbjerg, Denmark, plans to expand its lifting capacity by adding an LHM 800 mobile harbour crane, Liebherr, a provider of lifting solutions for the shipping industry announced. The port has seen its number of crane tasks increasing by 66% in the last four years.
Specifically, Liebherr’s LHM 800 is the world’s largest mobile harbour crane and is expected to support a growth in the amount of high and heavy cargo passing through the port, while it also offers a lifting capacity of up to 308 tonnes.

The crane is scheduled to arrive at the port of Eabjerg in August, boosting the already largest fleet of Liebherr cranes in Scandinavia.
The order of the new crane has also been prompted by developments in the offshore industry, especially as components for wind turbine projects in the North Sea are becoming larger.
In addition, Dennis Jul Pedersen, CEO at the Port of Esbjerg commented
We are experiencing a growth in high and heavy cargo, and that makes new demands on our crane capacity.
He continued that the cranes provide a better cargo handling flexibility, as the new crane, specifically, will enable the port carry out tandem lifts with two of our largest cranes together lifting up to 448 tonnes.
Concluding, the crane will also benefit additional industries at the port which can be used for the handling of heavy machinery and production equipment.
