The Danish Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) has announced a major upgrade of its search and rescue planning tool, BMT’s SARIS, which is designed to locate targets lost at sea, whether it be people or objects, thus saving lives and minimizing dangers.
The upgrade will consist of a deployment of 20 licenses primarily to Denmark, but also including Greenland and the Faroe Islands. A large part of the upgrade will include capacity for ongoing in-house training, with initial training being delivered by BMT, the company informed.
The SARIS technology is developed by BMT, after years working with the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency and other coastguard authorities around the world. Ian Smith, BMT’s Business Line Manager for SARIS explains:
Traditionally, coastguards would use nautical charts and careful statistical calculations to help determine the predicted movement of a missing person or object at sea – all of which can take time. This functionality, with the addition of high quality metocean data modelling is delivered in a fraction of the time by SARIS.
