China Chamber of Commerce (CSSC) announced, on 7th April, that it signed an agreement with CMA CGM to build 16 large container ships.
In particular, they will build 12- 15,000teu methanol dual-fuel powered large container ships 4-23,000teu LNG dual-fuel powered ULCC in a record deal worth around $3.06bn.
The order for the methanol dual-fuel ships has been spread between Jiangnan Shipyard and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC), while Hudong-Zhonghua will build the 23,000 teu units.
According to the announcement, it is the first time for CSSC to undertake a batch order for methanol fuelled container ships.
As explained, CSSC has bought more than 70 green container ships from CMA CGM over the past 10 years.
