The Nigerian Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, believes that corruption still exists in the country because thieves are not jailed or severely punished.
Mr. Amaechi urged the public to stop celebrating people who “enrich themselves by stealing public funds.” As he noted that such actions encourage corruption.
More specifically, he said that until Nigeria begins to jail thieves, corruption would continue.
Corruption is on the increase is because the offenders have not been punished, nobody has been jailed
Moreover, Mr. Amaechi noted that the Nigerian government is now giving priority to the transportation sector because of its importance.
For this reason, he announced that the government is planning to construct three new seaports across the country, which would be toe located in Onne, Rivers State, Lekki in Lagos, and Warri in Delta State respectively.
Furthermore, former Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. S. J Cookey, highlighted that the Bonny seaport was under-utilised.
Additionally, recently, Nigeria’s new Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Zubairu Gambo, claimed that some personnel of the Nigerian Navy are colluding with drug traffickers, bandits, kidnappers and economic saboteurs. He also warned that the persons colluding would be identified and sanctioned.
