The international research project “5G-Blueprint” recently received European fund in order to develop how remotely operated transport can be used to make operations and logistics more efficient.
In fact, the three-year project is a collaboration between the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Flemish Department for Mobility and Public Works, Port of Antwerp, North Sea Port.
The above mentioned participants have set up a consortium of 28 parties in order to investigate how transport and logistics can be made more efficient using ‘tele-operation’ technology.
At the same time, partners will also investigate how real-time data exchange from and to vehicles, between terminals and vehicles and between vehicles and control rooms can help boost efficiency in the supply chain and compensate for driver shortages through the remote operation.
Following the 10 million euros grant from the EU, collaborators will begin researches on 1st of September 2020. For the records, the 5G initiative is one of the eleven Horizon 2020 projects.
