China will build new liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals and expand the capacity of existing terminals in its Greater Bay area, China’s cabinet said on February 18, according to a report by official news agency Xinhua.
Specifically, the area will include Hong Kong, Macau and nine other neighbouring cities in the Guangdong province.
The Chinese government aspires to transform the area into an economic hub.

As China is being the second largest LNG importer, it keeps on boosting its imports and also accomplished a new record high by pursuing its strategy for cleaner air.
Finally, China imported 53.7 million tonnes of LNG in 2018, a rise of about 38%, in comparison to 2017 when China has surpassed South Korea as the world’s second largest LNG importer.
