The spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, Wang Wenbin, thanked Russia for the rescue of 14 sailors from China who onboard a ship carrying cargo that went aground near Russia’s Nakhodka.
The incident took place on November 9, when a Panama-flagged ship that was carrying cargo ran aground during bad weather in the area of Nakhodka.
Upon receiving a distress call, the Russian government’s ministry of emergencies deployed a helicopter to assist the ship with an emergency response team.
All the 14 Chinese crew were saved, while the ship saw damages to its hull. More specifically, the ship’s hull is cracked, but it is still quite stable.
The rescue operation took place in severe weather conditions with wind gusts of up to 15 meters per second and waves up to three meters
the Emergencies Ministry’s spokesperson told TASS.
According to local media sources, the 21-year-old vessel was en route from Ningbo in China to Port Vostochny when it ran aground off Pacific port Nakhodka.
The Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor’s Office has now launched an investigation into the incident involving a foreign vessel in the Sea of Japan,
