29 Filipino seafarers have tested positive for COVID-19, after arriving in China to board their ships, according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
The 29 seafarers underwent COVID-19 tests the Philippines and were tested negative before being allowed deployment to China.
After the latest development, officials expressed concerns over the integrity of COVID-19 tests being conducted in the Philippines.
In the meantime, the POEA will continue to cooperate with Chinese counterparts to make sure that such an incident will be avoided in the future.
POEA has also contacted the manning agency which deployed the 29 seafarers and required it to submit a report.
