The Bahamas Maritime Authority has issued information bulletin to provide guidance and instructions regarding the carriage, training and certification of Electro-Technical Officer and/ or Electro-Technical Rating.
The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping for Seafarers, 1978 as amended (STCW), the associated Code (STCW Code), Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006) and International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Resolution A.891(21), as superseded by A.1079(28), require all persons to be trained, instructed or certificated for their assigned shipboard tasks and for the ship on which they are sailing.
Further, Section 67 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1976, Regulation V/14.1 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974, as amended (SOLAS) and Regulation 2.7 of MLC 2006 require every ship to be manned sufficiently and efficiently taking into consideration the international guidelines as contained in IMO Resolutions A.1047(27) and A. 1079(28).
