The general cargo ship ‘YU TONG 1’ sank in the early hours of Sunday, while underway some 3 nautical miles off Guandong Province, China, southern Taiwan Strait, amid inclement weather conditions, according to data provided by MaritimeBulletin.
At the time of the incident, the Chinese-flagged vessel was en route from Maoming to Jieyang in Guangdong, carrying iron ore cargo, international media reported.
Reportedly, rough weather caused the ship to take on water and to capsize.
The 14 crew members onboard went into life boat and life rafts, all rescued by local forces.
