June 1st marked the beginning of the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season. In its 2014 outlook, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting that 3-6 hurricanes will form this season. Should a storm enter the Gulf of Mexico and disrupt offshore oil and gas operations, BSEE will post updated activity statistics on www.bsee.gov each day at 2 pm EDT.
BSEE has also posted a video describing the bureau’s Hurricane Response Team (HRT). In it, members of of the team explain their roles during a storm and how the Gulf of Mexico Region works to protect oil and gas industry personnel and the environment during extreme weather events associated with hurricane season.
