Chemical tanker MT TORC experienced a boiler explosion on January 8, while en route from Agio Theodoroi, Greece, to Genoa, Italy, costing the second engineer his life.
According to Besiktas Shipping, the Technical Manager of the vessel, the second Engineer suffered severe injuries and, regrettably, passed away shortly after the incident.
Immediate efforts were made to contact Italian Port Authorities, Coast Guard, Ankara MRCC, and the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Foreign Affairs for crew evacuation.
Despite these efforts, Italian authorities canceled the helicopter evacuation, directing the vessel to proceed to Genoa, Italy.
The vessel is expected to arrive at the Port of Genoa on 11th January 2024 in the morning hours.
Post-incident, Italian Authorities are conducting an investigation, and Besiktas Shipping has arranged for an additional analysis by an international expert organization.
