The Bahamas Maritime Authority has issued a guidance which applies to all Bahamian ships fitted with Inmarsat terminals with the purpose to provide information on commissioning and decommissioning of Inmarsat terminals and allocation of MMSI numbers.
Since 2001, commercial companies approved by Inmarsat to act as Points of Service Activation (PSA) have undertaken commissioning and decommissioning of Inmarsat terminals.Where a change in existing Inmarsat terminal services or deactivation of terminals is required, a PSA should be approached to perform the work. These services are not provided by the Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA). In many cases, the PSA will also be the Accounting Authority (AAIC) or Inmarsat Service Provider (ISP) for the terminal.
Any enquiries related to commissioning or decommissioning of Inmarsat terminals should be addressed to the PSA or Inmarsat. As far as the MMSI Number is concerned, the BMA allocates MMSI numbers to Bahamian ships on behalf of the Bahamas Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA).
