According to UN’s Secretary-General, António Guterres, the Russian Federation will continue its participation in another 60 days.
António Guterres welcomed this decision and acknowledged the continuation is good news for the world. However, he reminded that issues remain but representatives of Russia, Ukraine, Türkiye and the United Nations will keep discussing them.
Black Sea Initiative
More than 30 million tons of food have been exported under the Black Sea Initiative. A WFP-chartered ship recently left Ukraine with 30,000 tons of wheat to feed hungry people in Sudan. Vital food supplies are reaching some of the world’s most vulnerable people and regions. They are important since the cost-of-living crisis is still at record levels.
It is obvious how important the Memorandum of Understanding between the UN and the Russian Federation and the Black Sea Initiative are. The significance of these deals corresponds to the world’s food security. The globe is fed by Ukrainian and Russian products.
I welcome the confirmation by the Russian Federation to continue its participation in the Black Sea Initiative for another 60 days.
Even in the darkest hours, there is always a beacon of hope & an opportunity to find solutions that benefit everyone.

Looking ahead, we hope that exports of food and fertilizers, including ammonia, from the Russian Federation and Ukraine will be able to reach global supply chains safely and predictably
… said António Guterres
To remind, just a few days ago Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had renewed threats of abandoning the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
