Crew member death in the Port of Portland, Australia
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) issued a notice stating that it has started an investigation into a crew member fatality on board the general cargo ship Toucan Arrow at Portland Victoria on 7 October.
A crew member died after a workplace accident on board the vessel Toucan Arrow in the Port of Portland. It is believed that he has been crushed by a large moving gantry as he was climbing down from a hatch.
According to ATSBnotice at about 1000 on 7 October, a crew member was crushed between one ofToucan Arrow‘s cargo cranes and a hatch coaming while the ship was being prepared for cargo operations. Emergency services attended the ship and the crew member was taken to hospital. The crew member later died as a result of his injuries.
