The conference aims to be a meeting place for decision makers within activities in the Arctic
The Norwegian Shipowners’ Association has announced detailed plans for the “Arctic Business” conference which will be held in Bodø later this year. The conference aims to be a meeting place for decision makers from international businesses with activities in the Arctic.
Already in 2012 the NSA launched the idea of a meeting place for Arctic businesses. Last week Sturla Henriksen, CEO of the association, presented a more detailed plan for the event, targeting corporate management and decision makers at strategic levels.
The purpose of the conference is to create an attractive meeting place for companies that want to exchange, discuss and reconcile information, ideas and best practices on opportunities and challenges in the Arctic, Mr Sturla Henriksen says.
The Norwegian Shipowners’ Association represents 160 members within maritime offshore and shipping, many with notable experience and expertise in activities similar to those that will occur in the High North.
”The opportunities in the north are many and Norway must take initiative to ensure long-term and proper management of resources. It is important to focus on industry standards, regulations and competence, and measure this against resource potential, infrastructure needs and investments” Mr Henriksen says.
He adds”Exploration and production in the Arctic will require extensive research, knowledge development and new insights. We believe that a cross-industry conference will inspire the industry to innovate and develop new technologies and thereby foster sustainable development in the region. “Arctic Business” will provide access to a global forum for businesses that either already operates in the Arctic or are planning to do so.”
The first “Arctic Business” takes place in the autumn of 2014 in Bodø, Norway. It will be an bi-annual event.
