Anadarko, the US Oil and Gas company announced that its contractors working on the Mozambique LNG projects were attacked in two separate incidents. One person was killed, six were injured. The attacks took place on the road from Mocimboa da Praia to Afungi at approximately 5 p.m. local time on February 21.
Specifically, the company released a statement according to which the attacks took place about 20 kilometres from the construction site.
Mainly, the first attack involved a convoy where six contract personnel sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were either treated or are receiving treatment.
In addition, the second attack resulted to one fatality.
Portuguese news agency Lusa, reported that about 15 gunmen dressed in black opened fire on a convoy.
The company highlighted that the safety and security of its employees is of a big importance. As a result, the construction site will remain shut down.
For the time being, the company is working on gathering information and keeps on monitoring the situation.
Moreover, Anadarko is close with the Government authorities to make sure that appropriate measures are to be taken.
The company reported that it would not further comment, until it has the full picture of the events.
Anadarko is developing Mozambique’s first onshore LNG facility, which comprises of two initial LNG trains.
