The amendments will enter into force on July 1st, 2014
The Hong Kong Marine Department has issued Merchant Shipping Information Note on amendments to the International Code for Fire Safety Systems (FSS Code) that will enter into force on July 1st, 2014.
The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organization(IMO) adopted the resolution MSC.339(91) on 30 November 2012 to amend the InternationalCode for Fire Safety Systems (FSS Code). The amendments will enter into force on 1 July 2014.
A corrigendum (MSC 91/22/Add.1/Corr.2) was issued by IMO on 21 November 2013 notifyingthat there was editorial error to the amendments as annex to resolution MSC.339(91).
Theresolution MSC.339(91) adopted numerous amendments relating to chapters 3, 5, 7,8, 9, 12, 13 and 14 of the FSS Code which incorporated standards of engineering specificationsfor fire safety systems required by Chapter II of the International Convention for the Safety ofLife at Sea (SOLAS), 1974, as amended.
Shipowners, ship managers, ship operators, masters, classification societies andshipbuilders of Hong Kong registered ships are required to take note of these amendments andact accordingly
