ADNOC Logistics and Services has taken delivery of “Al Shelila,” the first of six new liquified natural gas (LNG) carriers built by Jiangnan Shipyard in China.
Delivered two months ahead of schedule, the vessel will immediately begin operations under a charter with a global energy trader. The remaining five carriers are slated for delivery in 2025 and 2026, as part of ADNOC L&S’s strategic fleet expansion to meet rising global demand for natural gas, a lower-carbon energy source.
The vessel, with a 175,000m³ capacity -significantly larger than the company’s existing LNG carriers- features advanced energy-efficient technologies that reportedly reduce methane emissions by up to 50%.
Captain Al Masabi highlighted the vessel’s representation of strength and grace, as well as the UAE-China industrial partnership driving global economic growth.
As a global leading shipbuilding company specialized in the full series of gas carriers, Jiangnan has demonstrated its comprehensive shipbuilding ability again.
… added Lin Ou, Chairman of Jiangnan Shipyard
ADNOC L&S’s fleet modernization continues with contracts for up to 23 new energy-efficient vessels, including 8-10 LNG carriers, 9 Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs), and 4 Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs).
The “Al Shelila” naming and delivery ceremony saw participation from key dignitaries, including UAE Consul General in Shanghai, ADNOC L&S CEO Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, and Jiangnan Shipyard Chairman Lin Ou.
