Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Japanese officials reported 57 additional confirmed coronavirus cases onboard the “Costa Atlantica” cruise ship. Specifically, until now there are 148 positive cases on the ship, while officials have completed the testing of all of its 623 crewmembers onboard.
In fact, Costa Atlantica is docked at a shipyard in Nagasaki since 29 January, as no passengers have been on board during the repair work and it only carries crew.
For the records, only one crewmember was transmitted to the hospital, as the remaining crewemembers are on the ship and being closely monitored.
In light of situation, the cruise operator plans to repatriate the crew members who tested negative back to their home countries.
Concluding, the outbreak onboard the ship was surfaced last week when officials from Nagasaki and Mitsubishi Heavy Industry, which is in charge of repairs and maintenance on the ship, reported that a crewmember had a cough and fever.
