The video illustrates the fastest ship design in the world. InSvivia Technologies’ SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) design has been engineered by among other Japanese universities and defence academies, Greece research centre and Juliet Marine Systems, in cooperation with US Navy.
The specific design minimizes the waterplane area and cuts the water surface unaffected of waves and with minimal wave-making resistance. The general SWATH-principle works like two submarines driving beneath the waves that carrying a platform above the waves, with a maintained horizontal position. A SWATH is like a submarine-borne platform.
The design has three big benefits:
- Reduced pitching,
- bending momentums and
- wave-making resistance.
