Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries ZPMC developed the first automated driving unmanned container straddle carrier, called ‘AI unmanned straddle carrier’, in the world.
The accuracy rate of autonomous operation of the new type of straddle carrier reaches nearly 100%. Straddle carrier are expected to liberate the labor force on terminals and improve the horizontal transportation efficiency of terminals by more than 50%.
In August 2017, ZPMC collaborated with westwell lab, an AI start-up company, launching an R&D program of automated driving unmanned straddle carrier. ZPMC manages the overall terminal solution, hardware and control software of single straddle carrier, integration of multiple equipment control system connecting TOS. From its part, westwell lab provides AI solution for unmanned operation of single straddle carrier and dispatching system of multiple straddle carriers.
In November 2017, the first automated driving unmanned straddle carrier was created. Using AI technology, this straddle carrier can conduct multiple functions without pre-embedded magnetic nails. After tested on the terminal for a long time, the straddle carrier can perform unmanned driving like self-location and autonomous navigation.
