HMM informed that the world’s largest containership, ‘the Algeciras,’ achieved a new world record by departing Yantian, China fully filled with containers.
The container ship made a call at Busan New Port on April 28, where it loaded 7,156-TEU cargoes and then left on April 30.
After that, it arrived at Yantian, on May 7, and headed to Europe with the largest shipment of 19,621 TEUs on May 8. The Algeciras is able to load up to 24,000 TEUs.
MSC’s 23,756-TEU containership Gulsun had the previous record for the highest cargo volume at 19,574 TEUs, but the Algeciras surpasses recording 19,621 TEUs.
Speaking on the occasion, an HMM official said that they were able to load the ship with cargoes through cooperation of Hapag-Lloyd, ONE, and Yang Ming, which are members of The Alliance.
