Hutchison Ports Thailand launched the construction of its $600 million Terminal D facility at Laem Chabang during a press conference. The new facility will include the world’s first container terminal that will be fully equipped with remote control technologies.
After the construction of Terminal D, it will be able to facilitate the growth of container numbers at Laem Chabang. This will increase the capacity by 3.5 million TEU.

The first phase of Terminal D will consist of three of the largest quay cranes in the world using remote control technology, and is expected to start operations in mid-2018, Stephen Ashworth, Managing Director /Thailand and Southeast Asia of Hutchison Ports informed.
According to local media, once completed, Terminal D will feature a total quay length of 1,700 metres, with 17 super post panamax quay cranes and 43 electric rubber tyred gantry cranes using remote control technology.
Finally, the new Terminal D will be part of Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). This plan aims to modernise the economy with improved infrastructure and innovation.
