Three offshore oil workers that worked during a fire on a Gulf of Mexico production platform, filed a lawsuit against Royal Dutch Shell and Enbridge, requesting $1 million for injuries they allegedly suffered during the fire.
According to the suit, there were safety issues on Shell’s Enchilada platform, which resulted in the three workers being injured, Reuters reported.
On November 8 a fire broke out in Shell’s Enchilada platform. As a result from the fire, a 54-year-old male suffered from flash burns and a concussion, and a 29-year-old male suffered from a sprained wrist and a concussion. Shell launched an emergency helicopter and medevaced both people and transferred them to the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston.
After the fire, Royal Dutch Shell decided to shut down four of its oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. In addition to the Enchilada platform, Shell shut the production in 3 more platforms, the Salsa platform, the associated Hess-operated Conger field and the Auger platform, as there was no plan for the operation to be continued normally.
