Royal Caribbean Cruises has reportedly banned for life a 27-year-old man and his friends from travelling on its cruise ships, after he was shown jumping overboard from the 9th deck of ‘Symphony of the Seas’, the world’s largest cruise ship to date.
The video, originated from social media, became viral on the Internet, as it depicts Nikolay Naydev jumping from the balcony of the cruise ship around 100 feet down to water. The cruise ship was docked in Nassau, Bahamas, at the time. Notably, these waters are reportedly home to dozens of shark species.
International media reported that a small boat brought to shore the young man. Then, the man and his friends were kicked off the cruise ship and had to make their own way home from the Bahamas.
On the aftermath, a spokesman from Royal Caribbean said that this was a reckless action and the company is exploring taking legal action.
Mr. Naydev said he was drunk from the previous night when he decided to jump, adding that ‘he never felt more alive’. He also said that he could barely walk for three days as a result from the jump.
Symphony of the Seas has 18 decks with a total height of 238ft and space for 5,518 passengers.
The incident comes shortly after the death of a 16-year-old cruise passenger who fell from Deck 8 of Royal Caribbean’s ‘Harmony of the Seas’ on 11 January, while the cruise ships was docked in Labadee, Haiti.
