The Panamanian-flagged livestock carrier ‘Jawan’ was detained by Australian maritime authorities as the ship was seen rolling heavily from side to side, shortly after she departed from the Port of Portland in the early morning hours of 22 November. The vessel was carrying 4,327 cows that were no injured, but concerns were raised about its seaworthiness.
The MV Jawan departed Portland bound for Muscat, Oman, on 22 November, but just after exiting the harbour, she turned back to port. A video released depicts the ship forcefully rolling from side to side.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has detained the vessel and an investigation will be conducted. At this early stage it is not known when this investigation will be completed, the Port announced in an official statement.
