The Greek-flagged crude oil tanker ‘Minerva Gloria’ interrupted her voyage as the Greek Master of the vessel fell seriously ill and was in need of immediate medical assistance. The crude oil tanker was sailing from Venezuela to Germany, but instead headed to Azores waiting for the Portugal Air Force transport the Master.
Specifically, the master of the tanker felt seriously ill, so they had to interrupt their voyage, to wait for medical assistance.
The 47-year old Greek Master was medevaced by Portugal Air Force helicopter on the afternoon of February 24.
The weather conditions were challenging for the helicopter, as the pilot had to manoeuvre the helicopter because of the wind.
When the master was medevaced, he was transferred to hospital in Ponta Delgada. The Aframax continued her voyage.
