British oil major issued a video illustrating how its Miller facilities in the North Sea were dismantled and removed. The Miller field ceased production in 2007 and the final decommissioning of the platform has been conducted from January 2017 to July 2018.
11,500 tonnes of jacket have been removed, while the disposal of the Miller structures has also commenced, with the target of recycling 97% of the materials.
The Miller field is situated 270km north east of Aberdeen, in Blocks 16/7b and 16/8b, in the Central North Sea. BP is the field operator and partners are ConocoPhillips and Shell.
The UK Government approved the decommissioning programme in December 2013. The OSPAR consultation phase completed in 2011 and Government approval for derogation was received in early 2013.
In April 2016, Petrofac was awarded a Duty Holder contract from BP to support the late life management of the platform. Under the contract, Petrofac assumes operator responsibility for the platform and will manage all aspects of on and offshore activities as the decommissioning programme progresses.
