Vertom Group has taken delivery of MV Vertom Rita, a shortsea vessel which will cater to diverse shipping needs such as bulk and breakbulk transport.
The 6,000-dwt vessel, built at the Chowgule Shipyards in India, is the first of 12 diesel-electric shortsea vessels ordered at the yard by the Vertom Group. It is a smaller version of the 7,280 dwt vessels built in the Netherlands, of which six have been already delivered.
The MV Vertom Rita utilizes advanced diesel-electric propulsion that complies with IMO Tier III standards, minimizing environmental impact. Its modular system features smaller engines that adapt to sailing profiles, optimizing fuel consumption and preparing for future use of alternative fuels like methanol or hydrogen. The vessel also includes advanced data connectivity and automation systems to improve crew efficiency.
In addition to this series of 12 vessels, Vertom is investing in a broader fleet renewal program.
With these vessels, we are making great strides toward achieving our target of reducing carbon intensity by 40 per cent by 2030.
