US Coast Guard Sector Miami restored the offshore radio communication capability along the South Florida coast. Radio communication was not available since Wednesday, June 27.
USCG could not monitor radio traffic offshore, and warned mariners to be extremely careful throughout the Miami Captain of the Port Zone, which includes the ports and waterways surrounding Fort Pierce, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and the Miami areas.

Mariners were also called to check all safety equipment, conduct a fully charged cell phone, and file a float plan with a friend or family member before getting underway.
A US Coast Guard aircraft was deployed to monitor communications in Sector Miami COTP Zone.
Lt. Cmdr. Scott Farr, Sector Miami chief of incident management, said:
We still remind mariners to check all safety equipment, file a float plan with a friend or family member prior to getting underway and always wear a life jacket. Being prepared for a maritime emergency prior to getting underway by having the appropriate equipment like an emergency position indicating radio beacon, flares, life jackets and a maritime VHF-FM radio can often narrow our search efforts and can lead to a more rapid rescue.
