MPA Singapore has issued shipping circular to draw the attention of the shipping community to the latest United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCRs) 2219 (2015) which imposed sanctions on Cote D’Ivoire.
In particular, the first paragraph of UNSCR 2219 (2015) states the following:
1. Decides, for a period ending on 30 April 2016, that all States shall take the necessary measures to prevent the direct or indirect supply, sale or transfer to Côte d’Ivoire, from their territories or by their nationals, or using their flag vessels or aircraft, of arms and any related lethal materiel, whether or not originating in their territories;
MPA Singapore would like to remind that in accordance with Section 43 of the Merchant Shipping Act, any Singapore-registered ship which contravenes UN Security Council Resolutions is liable to have its registration cancelled.
