On 21 July 2017, the United Nations Security Council Committee Concerning Libya announced that it has sanctioned the Tanzanian-flagged products tanker “Capricorn”, due to alleged illegal activities in Libya.
The vessel Capricorn (IMO: 8900878) was listed as transporting gasoil, a refined petroleum product, illicitly exported from Libya, based on information received from the Government of Libya, the UN informed.
The sanction means that the Capricorn is not allowed to enter any port nor to transport or discharge cargo.
This designation is valid from 21 July to 21 October 2017, unless terminated earlier by the Committee pursuant to paragraph 12 of resolution 2146 (2014).
As of 16 July 2017, the vessel was located off Cyprus.
