BP Shipping, CMA CGM, and GTT have joined the Methane Abatement in Maritime Innovation Initiative (MAMII), increasing its membership to 23 companies.
MAMII, led by Safetytech Accelerator since 2022, aims to reduce methane emissions from ships using LNG as fuel by fostering collaboration between industry leaders and tech innovators. The initiative was celebrated at Gastech 2024 in Houston, marking its second anniversary.
A few days ago, MAMII called for universal methane measurement standards to promote the adoption of emission-cutting technologies. The group is currently conducting trials and accelerating solutions to address methane slip in the maritime sector.
Leaders from BP Shipping, CMA CGM, and GTT emphasized their commitment to reducing emissions and contributing to the global energy transition through technology innovation and knowledge sharing within MAMII. Steve Price, MAMII Programme Director, stressed the importance of addressing methane emissions to fully realize LNG’s environmental benefits, welcoming the expertise of energy majors like BP.
Meanwhile, BP Shipping’s Gopal Hariharan highlighted the company’s commitment to improving emissions monitoring and contributing its experience to drive solutions for maritime transport.
Finally, Christine Cabau of CMA CGM noted that joining MAMII will help accelerate emission reduction efforts and support regulatory discussions, while Jean-Baptiste Choimet of GTT emphasized the importance of innovation in reducing methane emissions and supporting the maritime sector’s transition to sustainability.
