Thoresen Shipping is migrating its fleet to a Marlink hybrid network solution that combines VSAT, Starlink LEO, and backup services.
According to Marlink, the network integrates software-defined application routing (SD-WAN) through the XChange platform, ensuring reliable connectivity for cloud applications and remote operations at sea. The system merges different types of networks—GEO, LEO, and MSS backup—into a single solution with high uptime and global coverage.
As a fully integrated shipping company and volume carrier, we recognise the competitive advantage that a digitalised operating model can bring to our fleet and our customers. This transition will bring tangible benefits for the Thoresen fleet, our crews and our shore teams, enabling us to respond quickly to changes in the market.

The hybrid network will aim to improve Thoresen Shipping’s operational efficiency, enhance application performance, and increase network security. It will also support better crew communications and provide remote access to shipboard systems, improving operational support and workflows.
Marlink is delighted to be working with Thoresen Shipping to bring together its fleet within a network that truly creates possibilities for business and crew alike. With efficient and secure solutions in place, Thoresen is well-positioned to leverage the benefits of high throughput services within a managed global solution.
