Thirty Indonesian fishermen were rescued in the South China Sea on 20 May after their vessel, Facific Memory II, capsized near Pedra Branca.
The rescue operation was carried out by the M/V Andros Spirit, a commercial vessel operated by Moderna Marine Management Ltd. The incident occurred on 20 May 2025 when a distress signal was picked up by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Singapore. Acting under MRCC’s guidance, the Andros Spirit immediately diverted course to render assistance.
The ship’s crew successfully rescued all 30 individuals from the water. The rescued fishermen were given medical attention and care onboard before being safely disembarked in Batam, Indonesia.
Moderna Marine Management praised the actions of the captain and crew, calling their response “a true example of the spirit of seafarers and the responsibility we all share at sea.”
No serious injuries were reported, and local authorities are now investigating the cause of the capsizing.
